Overview

This course features Coursera Coach! A smarter way to learn with interactive, real-time conversations that help you test your knowledge, challenge assumptions, and deepen your understanding as you progress through the course.

In this course, you'll explore modern API automation, starting with the fundamentals of DevTools to understanding API communication. You'll then move into mastering Postman for API testing, utilizing AI to automate and write tests in plain English.

The course also covers secure handling of API keys and how to integrate Curl into your workflow. You'll learn best practices for managing API requests and responses, ensuring efficient testing and debugging.

This course is designed for developers with an intermediate level of understanding of APIs and automation tools. It is ideal for those looking to enhance their skills with AI-assisted testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

If you want to improve your API automation and testing workflow while embracing AI technologies, this course will help you achieve that. By the end of the course, you will be able to automate API tests with AI in Postman, securely manage API keys, build and integrate CI/CD pipelines, and use DevTools for effective API communication and analysis.

Syllabus

  • Introduction
  • In this module, we will kick off the course by giving you an overview of the journey ahead. You'll get a clear understanding of what you will learn and how to navigate the course. Additionally, we’ll help you determine if this course aligns with your learning goals and expertise.
  • DevTools Foundations - How the Browser Talks to APIs
  • In this module, we will explore the basics of DevTools and its ability to provide “X-ray vision” into browser interactions with APIs. You will learn how to monitor network requests and inspect the data responses for efficient debugging and analysis.
  • Mastering Postman: From Setup to Smart API Testing with AI
  • In this module, we will guide you through setting up Postman, from installing the tool to creating your first collection. You’ll learn to write tests for API responses and explore how AI enhances Postman’s capabilities, allowing you to write and expand tests automatically.
  • Curl and Postman – From Web Calls to Automated API Testing
  • In this module, we will introduce Curl and demonstrate how to use it for making web calls. You’ll also learn how to capture API calls and import them into Postman for testing. Finally, we will show you how to handle sensitive API keys securely and process raw JSON data for insights.
  • HAR Files and AI – Capture, Analyze, and Share Safely
  • In this module, we will dive into capturing and analyzing HTTP Archive (HAR) files. You will discover how AI can help you interpret this data for quality assurance, and we’ll cover how to share HAR files securely without exposing sensitive information.
  • CI/CD with AI: From Local Tests to Cloud Automation
  • In this module, we will introduce Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD) and explore how AI can automate this process. You will learn to integrate Postman with GitHub, automate your tests, and secure your CI/CD pipeline with AI-enhanced techniques.
  • Wrap-Up and Next Steps
  • In this module, we will wrap up the course, highlighting how automated testing and CI/CD pipelines can bring peace of mind and efficiency to developers. You’ll gain insights into the future of API automation and where to go next on your learning journey.
