Overview

Most countries have experienced growing diversities in recent decades due to migration and historical minorities. Schools at all levels are facing complex challenges and opportunities in responding to these diversities. As many teachers report a lack of training and high burnout rates (OECD, 2018), this course addresses the need for knowledge and training for educators in diverse multilingual contexts.

The course aims to develop competencies related to diversity in multilingual and multicultural contexts; to foster understanding of digital responsibility and to promote responsible digital behavior. It also aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of global citizenship education.

The first module introduces the course's main concepts.

Modules 2 and 3 aim to:

  • Enhance teachers’ intercultural and linguistic sensitivity and their ability to implement linguistically and culturally responsive teaching methodologies.
  • Increase students’ awareness of the wealth of human languages, the value of language learning, and cultural diversity to cultivate plurilingual and intercultural competence.
  • Develop teachers’ and students’ metalinguistic and cross-linguistic awareness to foster positive attitudes towards language learning and improve academic achievements.

Modules 4 and 5 aim to:

  • Increase awareness and understanding of global citizenship in the digital world.
  • Empower educators' identities for the global digital landscape.
  • Analyze memorable learning experiences in a globalized environment.

By the end of this course, you will have enhanced your knowledge of diversity, multilingual and multicultural education, digital responsibility, and global citizenship education, while also advancing your skills to address digital responsibility and diversity in the classroom.
