A significant statistic reveals that half of mental health issues begin before the age of 14. Professionals, including educators, often feel underprepared to address the daily mental health challenges of the youth.

To bridge this gap, the University of Glasgow offers a comprehensive microcredential focusing on the current and evolving mental health needs of young individuals. Participants will delve into child development, trauma, loss, and acquire practical strategies to support the mental wellbeing of young people.

This course illuminates the importance of understanding child development theories and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Despite the ACE-aware campaign's efforts to raise awareness, there remains a substantial need for practical support for children affected by ACEs. Through this program, learners will explore brain architecture and developmental theories to grasp how trauma influences children's mental health and behavior within educational and social frameworks.

Another key component of this microcredential is enhancing children's and young people's emotional literacy and intelligence.

Understanding and managing one's emotions, alongside empathy and recognizing the emotions of others, are crucial aspects of mental health. The course will cover the pandemic's impact on young people's emotional literacy and strategies to aid in their emotional intelligence development.

Learners will also discover strategies for facilitating interventions and evaluating their potential impacts as the world navigates the post-pandemic era.

This course offers a deep dive into relevant theories, research, and strategies to enhance the mental wellbeing of children and young people, equipping participants with a broad range of approaches for various contexts.

This microcredential is not only an educational pursuit but a career development opportunity, particularly vital as the pandemic has affected the mental wellbeing of young individuals nationwide. It is designed for educators, social care workers, and residential care professionals seeking to support young people's mental wellbeing adeptly in a post-COVID landscape.

Teachers will find this course especially beneficial in meeting the new GTCS standards, which emphasize understanding trauma and prioritizing social and emotional wellbeing.

The assessment process comprises two parts, each contributing to 50% of the final mark. Participants will undertake an academic poster to evaluate key concepts critically and an assignment to apply or hypothetically apply course learnings to their professional or personal environments.

Upon successful completion and assessment, participants will be awarded 10 Post Graduate level academic credits and a Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) from the University of Glasgow, marking their achievement and understanding in supporting young people's mental wellbeing post-COVID.

Supported by FutureLearn, this program falls under the categories of Education & Teaching Courses and Mental Health Courses, and is provided by the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.
