Fundamentals of Construction 4.0

The construction sector represents one of the largest industries economically on a global scale and is positioned as a growth driver in multiple countries in the Latin American region. However, it is also one of the sectors with the lowest annual productivity growth due to its limited digitalization compared to other industries. This opens up an opportunity and challenge space for digital transformation and access to the fourth industrial revolution through new ways of approaching projects.

The transformation of the construction industry has explored the use of digital platforms and specialized software as part of its path towards digital transformation. However, it will need to rapidly transcend towards the digitalization, virtualization, and automation of processes, using and implementing Industry 4.0 technologies (digital twins, virtual reality, augmented reality, internet of things, robotics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, 3D printing or additive manufacturing, data analysis and big data, cybersecurity, among others) and the application of disruptive methodologies (Building Information Modeling BIM, Kanban, Design Thinking, SCRUM, LEAN Construction, among others). These technologies and methodologies will expedite the exploitation of real-time data, effectively influencing decision-making throughout the project life cycle and smart cities, generating new business models, helping to technify the workforce, and effectively solving interoperability and information exchange problems. As an industry, we face a new paradigm: construction 4.0.

In this program, learn the basic concepts of the impact and digital transformation that the fourth industrial revolution brings to the AECO Industry (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operation) throughout the entire cycle of environmentally friendly project production processes, from its planning to its control, involving the perspective of the various interconnected actors and with a critical and prospective point of view.

The Fundamentals of Construction 4.0 Professional Certification program seeks to introduce and recognize the basic concepts, methodologies, and new digital technologies associated and used in the current technological development of the construction industry and the emerging trends that will transform the entire value chain in the short, medium, and long term. We will explore the concepts of information technology and industry 4.0 applied to the construction sector, cyber-physical systems, digital ecosystems, disruptive and agile methodologies, among others.
